Rotary Park neighbor and insect enthusiast Jane Doerges tagged and released Monarch butterflies that she nurtured from eggs she collected along Spearfish Creek in Rotary Park.
She carried them across the street to the Peace and Pollinator garden in a special carrier. All of the butterflies she released flew straight into the trees. They will feed on the nearby pollinator-friendly plants until they are ready to migrate south. Monarch Watch sends out 250,000 tags like these for volunteers to tag butterflies with their origin and gender, then track them along their journey.
