April 25, 2017 - A coalition of young people and adults teamed with Northern Hills Rotary Club and Kids Against Hunger to pack over 15,000 meals to be delivered to starving refugees in Syria.

Creekside Middle School’s Kids Klub shouldered most of the work. Parents and school staff pitched in, as did representatives from Spearfish High School’s honor society, Rotarians, Kids Against Hunger staff and a member of Zonta Club of Spearfish.

Northern Hills Rotary funded the event and is grateful for additional financial support from Spearfish Lions Club and Zonta. A source from Rotary advised that over 70 volunteer hours went into the project.

The Rapid City arm of Kids Against Hunger coordinated the meal production and will arrange for the food distribution. The mission of Kids Against Hunger is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed starving children throughout the world. Northern Hills Rotary has partnered with Kids Against Hunger to package and distribute food since 2006. Rotary International’s motto is “Service Above  Self,” and since 1985 Rotary has spearheaded the elimination of polio from the world.
