On Saturday, June 27, we installed a Peace and Pollinator garden in Rotary Park that will also serve as a memorial to heavenly Rotarians.
What started out as an idea to memorialize club members who are Rotarians in the sky grew into a collaboration with City of Spearfish Parks and Recreation, Beautify Spearfish, and BHSU Sustainability. The 30-foot diameter garden is a Rotary wheel with pathways dividing 6 planting areas filled with plants that attract native pollinator essential to our environment. The centerpiece of the garden is a Peace Pole proclaiming "May Peace Prevail On Earth" in 4 languages of the North American continent: English, French, Lakota, and Spanish.

A formal ceremony to dedicate the Peace portion of the garden will take place on or about September 21, the United Nations International Day of Peace.
