Colonel Stacy Goodman

Leadership, Perspective, and Metacognition

Sep 21, 2022

About Stacy Goodman
I am originally from the Black Hills of South Dakota, one of the most beautiful places on earth. I grew up in the country on a ranch where I could have just about every kind of pet a kid could ever want, including a pony. I still prefer wide-open spaces and simple living! I joined the Army National Guard at the age of 17 to serve my community and my country. I have spent over 28 years in the Army, serving in all three components (active Army, the National Guard, and the Army Reserve). I have traveled the world for work and leisure and am a committed life-long learner.
I earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Black Hills State University using my GI Bill. After completing my degree, I moved to Kitzingen, Germany, where I spent time in the Army Reserve and worked at a Community Bank (a Bank of America branch on a military base). After three years in Germany, my family and I relocated to Fayetteville, NC, where I started work in personal financial planning, a very rewarding career move. After relocating to Colorado Springs, I was called to active duty with my reserve unit and spent three years doing various training missions on Ft. Carson, CO, Ft. Bliss, TX, and Ft. Riley, KS. During this time, I found my passion for human resources management and completed a master's degree in management with a specialization in leadership and organizational effectiveness at Troy University.
Upon completing my mobilization time, I had the opportunity to enter the federal workforce as a human resource specialist; this job was an excellent opportunity for me to develop several skills and was extremely rewarding. The Army was very kind and relocated my family to Hawaii; what a great place to live!!! After about four months in Hawaii, I was mobilized and deployed with the Corps of Engineers to Kabul, Afghanistan. I spent a year in Afghanistan, returned to Hawaii, and pursued my PhD. I worked at the 9th Mission Support Command on Ft. Shafter Flats, HI, traveled the Pacific Rim, and adjusted to the rigors of my PhD journey. The PhD program at Capella University was my first experience with online learning. I found the online learning environment both challenging and rewarding. I enjoyed the flexibility to pursue my degree on my schedule and the opportunity to attend classes with a larger diversity of people than would have been possible in a traditional setting.
After four years in Hawaii, My Husband and I relocated to El Paso, TX, in 2013, where I taught part-time at the Satellite Command and General Staff Officers Course (CGSOC) on Ft. Bliss and worked to complete my dissertation. In 2014, I completed my PhD in organization and management, with a specialization in HR Management, and I was selected to be an Army Congressional Fellow. As a result of my fellowship, my family and I relocated to Washington, D.C. I completed a master's degree in legislative affairs at The George Washington University (GWU), spent a year in the personal office of a U.S. Senator, and served two years as a legislative liaison for the U.S. Army Reserve. It was exciting to work in and around Capitol Hill and see our government from a different perspective.
I relocated back out west to continue my service in the Army Reserve and pursue some of my academic writing and research interests. In July 2020, I completed a master's in strategic studies at the U.S. Army War College.

Window Replacement Day for Blanca
Nov 12, 2022 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Dear fellow Rotarians,

We finally have a date that works for Modern Concepts owner, Todd Brownell to install the 3 windows we raised money for. We need a minimun of 6 Rotarians to help Todd. He is a one man show, so we will do doing anything and everything he asks of us to help get the job done quickly. I am unsure how long it will take, so I would plan for an entire day.

I will create a sign-up so I can make sure there are enough people to help. Please be sure to RSVP so I know how many people to expect in case I need to solicite other people to come help if we don't have enough Rotarians sign up.

Date: Saturday, Nov. 12th, 2022

Time: 9:00am

Location: 1409 7th Ave, Belle Fourche, SD 57717

RSVP by: Nov 5th, 2022

Thank you! I look forward to completing this project with you!
